How to Save Mucho Money on Spices

I learned this quick tip from my momma! If you’re like me, it hurts your gut a little to go to the spice aisle. There are so many yummy options, but it seems like you’re paying more for marketing, branding, and the container than you are the actual spice. Here’s a way to save tons!

Pretty much every grocery store or shopping type store (Walmart, Target) has a Hispanic aisle. There’s your ticket! They sell all of the general and common spices you use but for a fraction of the cost. The only difference is they’re sold in plastic bags instead of a shake container. If you need an example, check out the picture at the top of this post. They’ll all pretty much look like that.

I just made a recipe that required sesame seeds. In the spice aisle they cost $4. In the Hispanic section, they cost around $1. Same thing, cheaper price! As a side note, the Hispanic spices are sometimes in the same spice aisle and sometimes in the Hispanic aisle.

It is a little inconvenient to store the spices because once you open the bag there’s no reclosing it. From here, you can either purchase something like these spice shakers https://amzn.to/2Xc82fH or just recycle ones you have used up.

I had some nice glass ones already that were out of the spice. I just cut out the spice name from the bag label and taped it to the lid so I knew what it was.

That’s it! Don’t forget to leave a comment of your favorite spice hacks or spices that we all should try!
