My Favorite Country Christian Songs and Gospel Hymns
It’s that time of year. Praise Jesus! Literally. It’s time to count our blessings and remember that life is good. Our sins have been lifted and we are walking on borrowed time. Enjoy every moment. One of my favorite ways to celebrate anything is through singing. Here is a collection of some of my favorite country Christian songs and country gospel hymns.
Muddy Water – Trace Adkins
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love that it’s just a typical guy. Baptism doesn’t have to be “formal” in a church or with a certain type of water. It’s an outward sign that you are committed to God and His teachings. It doesn’t matter where you came from. Hand yourself over and you will be forgiven. Find some muddy water and a preacher man!
You Can’t Be a Beacon if Your Light Don’t Shine – Donna Fargo
This is such a fun and upbeat song. I also love the message. Be the example for what you are expecting of others.
Will The Circle Be Unbroken – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs
After a family member dies, the author is wondering if the family circle will all be reunited in Heaven based on the Mother’s teachings. It sounds a little dark, but it’s a really catchy and fun tune.
I Can’t Even Walk – Cody Johnson
Anything by Cody Johnson I immediately love. This is a man who thinks he can do all things himself and get through life on his own. He then realizes that he can’t take on the troubles of life without God by his side.
In the Garden – Loretta Lynn
This is a classic gospel song from a classic country voice. It was written based off of John Chapter 20 when Jesus rises from the dead. Walking with him in the garden is the metaphor to the first time they talk with Him when they see Him out of the tomb. I’ll Fly Away – Joey + Rory
This is one of the most well known classic hymn songs. I chose this version due to Rory’s fight with cancer and her love with the Lord throughout the whole process.
Are You Washed in the Blood – Alan Jackson
Have you accepted that Christ shed his blood for your sins? This song is about accepting the free gift of salvation! This is another one where you can’t help but stomp your foot along.
God and Country Music – George Strait
This is a brand new Strait song released in February 2019. I love that it’s his original country sound. The main theme is, “God and country music are both worth saving and keeping around.”
The Old Rugged Cross – Patsy Cline & Loretta Lynn
This is another classic hymn sang by 2 of the best female voices. It’s about being devoted to your faith, acknowledging what Jesus did for us, and knowing that someday you’ll meet Him again wearing a crown.
Because He Lives – Jarrett Akers
“Everything we do as Christians comes because of the resurrection. Because Jesus lives we therefore have life [with sins forgiven]. We’re alive because he lives.” ~Matt Maher
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms – Alan Jackson
Turn over your worries to God and lean on his arms to support you. You might be in a tight spot, in loss, depression, anxiety, etc. Try to trust that God has a plan, and worrying will get you nowhere.
Lead Me Home – Jamey Johnson
Some people think of this as a sad song. Clearly, the man in the story has passed away. However, it is actually a rejoice of having no more sadness, hearing angels, not dealing with hardships, and living a new life with Jesus.
Angels Among Us – Alabama
I can’t say enough amazing things about this video. It shows every day people making extraordinary change in the lives of others. God sent us to help others in their time of need. We can all be an angel, and maybe some of us already have been without even knowing it. Love the people God has sent to protect and help you along the way.
Go Rest High on That Mountain – Vince Gill
This is probably one of the most well known Christian songs and played at a lot of funerals. Your work on Earth is done, and you now get to rest in the grace of the Lord forever.
