How to Remove Rust the Cheap and Easy Way

I’m incredibly bummed. I had around 30 horseshoes that I cleaned specifically for this post. I had so many nice pictures to show you step by step and before and after. However, life got in the way. A child floating downstream led to me quickly jumping to catch them which led another child jumping on my raft……which led to my phone sinking in the canal. So, no pictures for you. However, I did already have the video uploaded.

This is the shortest post of all because it’s so easy.

  1. Buy the largest bottle of basic rubbing alcohol you can find. If it’s a smaller item feel free to just get a small one.
  2. Find a bucket (I used a 5 gallon) and place your rust items in the bottom. One large bottle of alcohol and a 5 gallon bucket cleaned about 15 horseshoes.
  3. Pour the alcohol over the rust items. Make sure they’re fully submerged.
  4. Let it sit overnight.
  5. Pull the items out one by one. Using a wire brush, scrape the rust and discoloration off the item.
  6. Run under warm water and lay out to dry.

Tips:
Wear rubber gloves.
If your item is too big to be submerged, soak a wash cloth in the alcohol and wrap the item in it that needs to be de-rusted.

Check out how easy it is!
